Intermediate Japanese
I recently finished an intermediate course in Japanese at the Osaka YMCA Nihongo Gakuin. I’ve been collecting a large number of notes from the course, but I significantly underestimated the effort needed to type them into a suitable form for sharing online.
The principal textbook we used was entitled 中級から学ぶ日本語 (Chūkyū kara manabu nihongo), the details of which can be found in my list of textbooks, and which consists of 25 chapters, each of which carries a theme that helps integrate the chapter’s grammar points and new vocabulary. I’ve found that an effective way to present this is simply to write the definition of each of the new vocabulary terms (or grammar points) and give an example. In many cases, I’ve highlighted the 上司 (particles) that need to surround a particular term or construct. I’m sure I have missed many points, but the ones found in my notes apply to the grammar to the extent it’s posed in the textbook.
As of this writing, I have transcribed notes from chapters 1-10 and have more or less fact-checked them all. I have also entered most of 11-25, but the material will require further updating before I feel confident about posting it. Comments and corrections are, of course, warmly welcomed.
